ABC Dophilus - Digestive Health for Children

During different life stages human bodies have different requirements. For this reason, we have introduced a probiotic product formulated especially for infants and children. Science has isolated specific strains of beneficial bacteria that are crucial for maintaining the healthy microbial ecology of an infant’s/child's intestinal tract.

Three strains of bacteria, B.bifidum, B.infantis and S.thermophilus, are particularly beneficial for infants and children. These strains are naturally found in the human intestinal tract and are the predominant bacteria found in the large intestine of infants and children. The ideal infant and children's formula will omit the bacteria, L.acidophilus, because it can produce forms of lactic acid which are poorly tolerated by infants.

S.thermophilus, a common friendly bacteria, found in yoghurt, has similar beneficial action as bifidus strains. More importantly for infants and children, S.thermophilus produces lactase, an enzyme necessary for the proper digestion of the milk sugar lactose.

Infant and children's probiotic products may be necessary in the following instances: While taking anti-biotics. While mother is taking anti-biotics and breastfeeding. Digestive upsets in children, including vomiting and diarrhoea. Maintaining a balanced microbial population in the intestinal tract has long been associated with good health and it is just as relevant in children as in adults.
