Ageing gracefully - naturally
Ageing is an inevitable fact of life. How well we age can however, be affected to some degree by the lifestyle we lead and through a carefully planned nutritional programme incorporating quality foods and dietary supplements.
Research has shown that certain nutrients can halt or slow down the damaging effects of free radicals, the chief cause of ageing. Free radical damage to the cells is much to blame for the development of conditions such as wrinkling of the skin, joint degeneration, macular degeneration of the eye, and cardiovascular disease.
You are never too young to start an anti-ageing campaign. Avoid free radical exposure as much as possible by not smoking, avoiding processed foods, burnt foods, hydrogenated fats and excess alcohol. Also take regular exercise and get adequate rest.
In addition, antioxidant nutrients which include vitamins A, C &E, carotenoids zinc and selenium have been shown to help to mop up free radicals and protect your body from the effects of ageing.
A diet rich in fresh (preferably organic) fruits, vegetables and wholegrains will certainly provide these nutrients although nutritional supplements will give you much needed additional protection.
If you have an age-related health concern, ask your local health food retailer for advice on natural approaches to improve your health.
