Breast Wellness
Every woman who is concerned with the health of her breasts should be aware of the enormous influence that nutrition has upon breast health.
Up to 80 percent of women in the West suffer with breast discomfort during their menstrual cycles, with breast pain being one of the main symptoms of PMS. Making simple dietary and lifestyle changes can offer great relief.
A diet that is low in saturated fats, while high in fibre and natural foods has been shown to regulate female hormones and offer relief from breast discomfort.
Plant foods such a whole grains, fresh fruit and vegetables contain fibre, which helps to prevent constipation. Excess oestrogen (which is normally excreted with regular bowel movements) is associated with many symptoms of PMS including breast discomfort.
Avoiding harmful oestrogens (xenoestrogens) found in non-organic meat and dairy produce, and foods encased in plastic packaging (especially microwave ready-meals) will also decrease the toxic burden on the liver – the organ of detoxification.
Methylxanthines are compounds found in coffee, tea, chocolate and cola. Clinical studies have shown that women who avoid these substances experience significant relief from breast discomfort.
Plant oestrogens or phytoestrogens are found in chickpeas, soya, apples and linseeds. Phytoestrogens have been shown to balance the body’s own production of oestrogen and regular consumption of these may reduce breast discomfort.
Making these dietary changes has improved the quality of life for many women, especially when the dietary measures are combined with a healthy exercise regime and an appropriate programme of nutritional and herbal supplements.
NUTRITIONAL & HERBAL SUPPLEMENTS have been shown in clinical studies to ease the symptoms of PMS, including breast tenderness and discomfort.
B VITAMINS aid the liver to inactivate ‘old’ oestrogens, which can produce symptoms of PMS.
ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS such as GLA from evening primrose oil have been shown to significantly reduce breast pain and discomfort.
AGNUS CASTUS has been shown to relieve breast tenderness due to its balancing effects on female hormones.
PHYTOESTROGENS as found in soy supplements can help to reduce excess oestrogen
PROBIOTICS (such as L acidophilus) and FIBRE SUPPLEMENTS (such as Psyllium) help to maintain healthy bowel function and encourage the elimination of old and excess oestrogen.
