Calcium & Magnesium Citrate - Chelated Supplements

Not all Minerals are chelated equal!

The term ‘chelate’ originates from the Greek word ‘chele’ which means ‘claw’. For optimum utilisation of minerals, it is crucial that they are molecularly bonded or ‘chelated’ in a form that can effectively pass across the intestinal mucosa via intestinal villi into the blood stream and then to the cell.

Inorganic mineral salts such as chloride, oxide and carbonates tend to have lower rates of absorption and depending on the mineral and age of the person (only 1%-25%, in the case of calcium).

The use of organic mineral chelates have been shown to be far superior, especially in cases where age or digestive difficulties would otherwise impair absorption. Organic chelates are the same forms as those naturally occuring in foods and human biochemistry.

Research into absorption rates indicate that both calcium and magnesium are easily absorbed orally, especially when they are bound to citrate or other Krebs(energy) cycle intermediates.

Some of the most effective mineral chelates include citrates, picolinates, aspartates, and amino acid chelates.

Facts about Citratesform found in mother’s milkcitrate forms are thought to be among the most easily ionised citric acid increases the absorption of calcium, especially in menopausal womencitrate reduces calcium stone formation

Facts about Calcium and Magnesiumboth minerals are required for supporting nervous system maintenanceboth minerals are needed for the regulation of normal cardiovascular function including; heart rhythm and blood pressuremagnesium is required for effective usage of calcium in bone buildingmagnesium is crucial to energy production and is involved in more than 300 enzymatic processes in the body

Typical intake range
1000mg Calcium with 500mg Magnesium daily, in divided doses.

Note: Calcium and magnesium are alkaline minerals and can be beneficial in both reducing acidity and aiding with relaxation and sleep.
