Cat's Claw from the Peruvian Rainforest
Cat’s Claw, (Uncaria tomentosa), is a South American plant widely used in traditional Peruvian herbalism for its anti-inflammatory and immune boosting properties.
Today, modern research has identified Uncaria tomentosa as containing major phytochemicals such as alkaloids, glycosides, polyphenols, triterpenes and plant sterols that play an important role in the body.
Cat’s Claw’s ability to resolve infections, particularly in the digestive tract and bowel, combined with its anti-inflammatory action, make it a wise choice for ailments such as Crohn’s disease, ulcers, gastritis, diverticulitis and leaky gut syndrome.
For the past 20 years, ongoing research has been conducted on Uncaria tomentosa in many countries for a variety of conditions. It appears that Cat’s Claw has so many applications that it may surpass the well known immune-boosting herbs such as Echinacea, Golden Seal, Astragalus, Pau D’Arco and Siberian Ginseng, as the herb of choice.
Uncaria tomentosa
Characteristically, Cat’s Claw is a woody vine that grows over 100 feet in length and usually winds its way up the trees of the Peruvian rainforest. The Indians of the Peruvian Amazon refer to it as Una de Gato, translated as Cat’s Claw because of the claw-like thorns.
